Itinerary

Day 1Beirut Arrival Day

● Meet and greet in Beirut, where we will give a pre-trip briefing. The location of the meeting will
be sent to you nearer the time, but most likely it will be at the bar in the hotel. Here we will answer any questions that you may have.
● Here, we will also collect the remainder of the money required for the tour (50% of the price = 600 USD), which you will have to give us in cash.
● We will go for dinner together, before going to exchange money to Syrian pounds, which you’ll need for spending money whilst in the country.
● Accommodation is included for this night in Beirut. It is likely to be the Mayflower Hotel, or another hotel of similar standard.

Day 2Beirut => Damascus

● Wake up early before gathering at 7am at the hotel lobby. We will leave Beirut for
Damascus at 7:15 am, provided that all of our group members are present.
● The drive will take between 3 and 5 hours including border formalities. On the way to the border, we’ll stop for a Lebanese breakfast.
● Check in to Beit Al Mamlouka hotel (or similar), where you’ll have a short break to relax and unpack.
● Today, we’ll go to Ananias Church, Souq Medhat Pasha, Khan As’ad Pasha, Qasr El Azm Palace, Beit Jebri Restaurant, The Ummayad Mosque, Salaheddine’s mausoleum, Al Hamidiyah Market, Al Nawfara Coffee Shop and some traditional Damascene houses in the old city.
● Those that would like to go for a traditional Syrian hamam (bathhouse) experience – highly recommended – would also have the chance to do this.
● In the evening, we’ll go for a stroll in Bab Touma and Bab Sharqi, where we’ll get to see Syria’s nightlife scene. We’ll enter a few bars. Drinking alcohol is fine, but please ensure that it’s not excessive. Those who do not want to join may relax at the hotel.

Day 3 Damascus

● Full day in Damascus! We’ll have a later start this morning, at about 10 am. Feel
free to go for a morning stroll before this.
● Today, we’ll visit the Tekiyeh Suleimaniyeh, The National Museum, Souq Al Shalaan, Souq Al Saroujeh. If possible, we’ll also head to the top of Qasioun mountain, which has an awesome view of Damascus from abovd. The mountain also has great religious significance.
● In the evening, we’ll head to the revolving restaurant on top of Sham hotel, which also has a great view of the old city below.

Day 4Damascus => Maaloula => Homs => Krak De Chevaliers => Almishtaya

● Leave Damascus in the early morning to visit Maaloula, a Christian town where many residents speak Aramaic, the language of Jesus. We’ll explore the town’s churches and streets, and hopefully meet some local residents.
● Then, we’ll head to Homs. This city was extremely affected by the war, but it is now safe to visit. We’ll visit Um Al Zenar Church, Julia restaurant. We’ll also go to the souq. Be aware that you will see destruction at close range. Please be sensitive to this.
● We’ll leave Homs city to head to the world-famous crusader castle of Krak De Chevaliers. We’ll spend a few hours wandering around this magnificent site before heading to the nearby Al Wadi hotel, in Almishtaya village.

Day 5Almishtaya => Palmyra => Almishtaya

● Today will be one of the most exciting days of the trip, where we will visit the most famous archaeological site in Syria – Palmyra. This place was captured by ISIS twice, and significant damage was sustained, but its former glory was not completely shattered, and it is still magnificent to see.
● It’s a 217km drive each way, meaning that there will be a lot of driving today. Checkpoints will slow us down, as Palmyra is now a military area. After our day trip, we will return to the Al Wadi Hotel in Almishtaya.

Day 6Almishtaya => Aleppo

● Today, we will have an early start, heading to the northern Syrian city of Aleppo,
exploring what the city has to offer.
● We’ll head to the old markets of Aleppo and experience the hustle and bustle of certain neighbourhoods, while also seeing some of the worst destruction to take place in Syria throughout the war. We’ll also experience Al Azizieh neighbourhood, Al Talal market and taste some of the delicious food that makes Aleppo Syria’s capital of food!

Day 7Aleppo => Hama => Damascus

Today, we’ll start the morning by visiting the citadel of Aleppo, which is arguably the highlight of the city. From the top of the citadel, you’ll be able to see a fantastic panoramic view of the city below.
● At about midday, we’ll start our drive back to Damascus, visiting the Christian monastery of Seydnaya on the way back, if time permits.
● As it will be our last night in Syria, we’ll go for a group dinner, before heading for drinks in the neighbourhood of Bab Touma.
● We’ll check back into the same Damascus hotel as the beginning of the trip.

Day 8Damascus => Beirut

Final breakfast together. You’ll be able to search for your final batch of souvenirs
from Syria before we depart Damascus at about 1pm.
● We’ll cross the border back into Lebanon. Those who wish to be let out in Anjar (some of Lebanon’s most interesting ruins), or anywhere else on the way to Beirut may do so. Everyone else will be dropped off in central Beirut.
● ***If you would prefer a transfer to Jordan, this can be arranged for an additional cost. Contact us for more information if you are interested in this.

FAQ

I'm a solo traveller, is there a single supplement?

No, there is no extra charge. In fact, most of the people on the tour will be solo travellers. We group two and two together, so you will share a room with someone who should become a good friend by the end of the tour.

However, if you prefer to stay in a room by yourself then this is also an option. This would be considered an upgrade of the tour and will, if so, come at an extra change, as mentioned in the itinerary.

Which currency is most widely accepted on this tour?

US Dollars is the preferred currency for this trip since it will give the best rates and will be possible to change at every money changing place. Secondary is Euros, which will also give a good rate, but if it is difficult for you to obtain these currencies you can talk to us and we would also consider accepting Norwegian Krone or British Pound as a payment for this trip.

Should I book pre/post tour accommodation?

If you want to. Or you can let us help you sort this our before you arrive.

What is cancellation policy?

As soon as you put down a deposit we will go ahead and apply for your visa and book hotels for you so that you will be guaranteed a spot on the trip. This means however, that if you for any reason would have to cancel the trip, we will not be able to refund you the deposit.
