Turning Transit Time to Sightseeing Time in Amsterdam

Sometimes it can be frustrating to have full days of waiting at airports, especially when it is involuntary and due to poor connection times between flights. In our case this weekend we had planned it so that we would have a full twelve hours at Schiphol so that we could go out and meet friends and explore the city. The subway linking the airport with the city centre was just a few euros, and the weather was ideal for exploring the city by bike so we headed in for some good meals and some ice skating by Museumsplein before catching our onwards night flight to Vancouver.
