When I arrived Vilnius, my couchsurfing hosts Rokas and Agne picked me up from the train station and took me to the Beer Tower right next to their home. Prices were super low and the traditional food they served was good. When walking on my own I managed to find a similar pub called Snekutis which must have my favorite bar of all time. They made their own beer, had even cheaper prices and was located in the self proclaimed Republic of Uzupis, within the UNESCO Heritage Site of Vilnius Old Town.
Vilnius City is quite small and quiet. What tourists seem to come here for are to see its many churches and the fortress that has a good 360° view of the city. There were also a tower that gave a good view of the central square and a quite beautiful Christmas tree that was decorated with doors and windows, as if someone was living inside it.
Most of the city was possible to see in a day, so if it wasn’t for me having to wait a couple of days for my Belarusian visa to go through I would have left much earlier.
Loved this Christmas tree decorated with doors and windows as if someone were living inside it
