Some Info on my Upcoming Travels

image

So, now I’ve been on the road for nearly half a year and it is time to open a new travel chapter. The next six months I will be traveling with a group of sixteen people all the way through Africa. The plan was originally to travel from 66 degrees north in Iceland to 33 degrees south in South Africa by truck, but things don’t always go as planned. Already after a few days of driving in Iceland, our truck was stopped and fined by the police having sideways passenger seats not good enough for EU regulations. The solution was for everyone, except the tour leaders to fly down to Malaga and wait for the truck to arrive a couple of weeks later. From here we will drive the 15 000 kilometers down to Cape Town where the tour will finish around July.
Everyone has chipped in 2650GBP which will cover all transport expenses. In addition everyone will pay 100 dollars monthly to a “kitty” that will cover all morning and evening meals as well as camping expenses. All visas will be done on the way and will also be a considerable part of our travel budget, but all in all this will be the cheapest way possible to travel in this part of the world where transport and accommodation options are limited.
Right now our truck has a broken Diesel pump and we are just waiting for it to get fixed before we can set off to Africa.
Our route is not a hundred percent set in stone, but the plan is to drive through Europe, Morocco, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, DRC, Angola, Namibia and South Africa with possible detours shown on the map below:
